Terms of service
Last updated 5 August 2026
These terms govern the research mentorship service provided byExtralife Technologies, trading as Inverse Labs(“we”), to you (“you”). By booking a consultation or engaging us, you accept them.
Where these terms and a signed engagement letter disagree, the engagement letter wins.
1. What we provide
We provide research mentorship. A mentor works with you to plan a research project, supervises the work as you carry it out, gives writing guidance and editorial feedback, and helps you through submission, peer review, and presentation.
We provide guidance on your statement of purpose where it relates to the research you have done with us.
2. What we do not provide
- We do not write your paper for you. The research and the writing are yours. We will not produce a manuscript for you to submit as your own work, and we will end an engagement if that is what is being asked for.
- We are not an admissions consultancy. We do not apply on your behalf, and we make no representation about your chances of admission to any institution.
- We do not offer immigration or legal advice. If a publication is relevant to a visa application, take advice from someone qualified to give it.
3. Your responsibilities
- Doing the research and the writing yourself, with our guidance
- Ensuring your work is original, and that anything you did not create yourself is properly cited
- Giving us accurate information about your background, your goals, and your timeline
- Responding within a reasonable time when the project or a review deadline needs you
- Obtaining any approval your own institution or employer requires before publishing
If you submit work that is plagiarised, fabricated, or produced by someone else, we will end the engagement, no fee will be refunded, and we will not be responsible for what follows.
4. Authorship
You are the author of the work you publish. Our mentors plan, supervise, and edit; they are not listed as authors on your paper unless the two of you agree that their contribution meets the authorship criteria of the venue you are submitting to, in which case that will be agreed in writing beforehand.
5. Publication commitment
We stay with your project through resubmission until it is published. If we are unable to place your paper, we will refund your fee.
This commitment applies only where:
- You have met your responsibilities under section 3, including responding to deadlines
- The work has been submitted to venues we selected, and revisions we recommended have been made
- [ANY TIME LIMIT — e.g. within 18 months of engagement]
- [WHAT PROPORTION OF THE FEE IS REFUNDABLE]
- [HOW AND WHEN THE REFUND IS PAID]
We do not guarantee acceptance at any particular venue, publication by any particular date, or any outcome from peer review. Review timelines are set by the venue and are outside our control.
6. Fees and payment
Fees are quoted individually after the initial consultation and confirmed in writing before work starts. The consultation itself is free and carries no obligation.
[PAYMENT SCHEDULE — deposit, instalments, when each falls due]
Publication fees, page charges, or conference registration and travel costs are not included in our fee unless the engagement letter says otherwise.
7. Cancellation
You may end the engagement at any time by writing to us.[WHAT IS REFUNDABLE ON CANCELLATION, BY STAGE]
We may end the engagement if you breach these terms, if you become unresponsive for more than [PERIOD], or if continuing would require us to act against academic integrity standards.
8. Intellectual property
You own your research, your data, your code, and your manuscript. Templates, checklists, and teaching material we give you remain ours, and are licensed to you for your own use on this project only.
We may refer to the fact that we worked with you, and to the published paper, in our own materials — but only with your written permission.
9. Confidentiality
We keep your unpublished research and personal circumstances confidential, and will not discuss them outside our team without your consent. See ourprivacy policy for how we handle your personal data.
10. Liability
Nothing in these terms excludes liability that cannot lawfully be excluded.
Subject to that, our total liability arising out of the engagement is limited to the fees you have paid us. We are not liable for admission decisions, visa outcomes, editorial or peer review decisions, or losses arising from delays caused by a venue.
11. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of India, and the courts of Bengaluru, Karnataka have exclusive jurisdiction.
